On our way to Siena on the local train. Where we met a mother and daughter originally from the same area of Russia as Anna. Small world. The daughter sells South Korean cosmetics to Russians. Who knew.
Since yesterday was our last day in Florence and it was a rainy day, we called an audible and decided a tour of the Uffizi Museum was in order. Small group tour to “skip” the line and get some art history led us to only wait half an hour in line to get in the door with our group. No flash photos allowed so not much from the inside. But the Michelangelo, Leonardo’s, Caravaggio’s and others were pretty darn good. See how well that art history lesson took? Anyway we wandered through the rain to the Mercato Centrale to get back to food. That’s what a foodapalooza is all about. Couldn’t bring myself, or talk Bonnie into, waiting in the long line to try the famous Lampredotto sandwich from Da Nerbone. That’s made from the fourth stomach from a cow, got close enough to see it, didn’t want to eat it. Lines were out the door, not meant to be. We got this instead.
More wandering around after lunch to taste and buy various treats, then headed back to the apartment. Had to make one stop on the way to get Joel a new belt…insert your own jokes here about pasta/cheese/salami consumption…you won’t be wrong and I’m enjoying it way too much to care. But we did find an artisan shop to custom finish the belt.
We leave you with scenes from Florence
